Super visa essentials

What the super visa is, and what it takes to qualify

The super visa is one of the fastest ways to reunite with parents and grandparents while a sponsorship works its way through the system. Here is what matters, and where our RCIC team makes the difference.

Who the super visa is for

The super visa is for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or registered Indians. Dependants cannot be included, so each parent or grandparent applies on their own.

Stay up to 5 years per entry

Unlike a visitor visa (usually up to 6 months), a super visa lets you stay up to 5 years at a time, and you can request up to 2 more years while you are in Canada.

Multiple entries for up to 10 years

A super visa is a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years, so you can come and go to visit your family without reapplying each time.

Host income requirement

Your child or grandchild must meet or exceed the minimum necessary income for their family size and sign a letter of invitation promising to support you during your stay.

Medical insurance

You need private medical insurance valid for at least 1 year from a Canadian insurance company, or a foreign insurer approved by the minister, with valid coverage on each entry to Canada.

Medical exam and apply from abroad

An immigration medical exam is required, and you must be outside Canada when you apply. We make sure every document is complete before you submit.

How we help

From eligibility check to approved super visa

Most super visa refusals come down to income proof, insurance, or a weak case that the visit is genuine. We prepare each part so your application is complete and convincing.

  1. 1

    Eligibility review

We confirm the parent or grandparent relationship, your host's status in Canada, and whether a super visa or a visitor visa is the right fit for your family.

  2. 2

    Host income and invitation

We check that your child or grandchild meets the minimum necessary income and draft a complete, correctly-calculated letter of invitation.

  3. 3

    Insurance and medical exam

We help you line up compliant one-year medical insurance and the required immigration medical exam so nothing holds up the file.

  4. 4

    Build the application

We prepare a well-documented application that clearly addresses ties to your home country and genuine-visitor concerns, the most common reason these are refused.

  5. 5

    Submit and biometrics

We file from outside Canada and guide you through biometrics and any local visa office instructions step by step.

  6. 6

    Decision and travel

On approval we brief you on entering Canada, keeping insurance valid on each entry, and how to extend your stay if you need more time with family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Super visa questions, answered

Common questions from families bringing parents and grandparents to Canada on a super visa.

What is the difference between a super visa and a visitor visa?
A visitor visa generally lets you stay up to 6 months at a time. A super visa is specifically for parents and grandparents and lets you stay up to 5 years per entry, with multiple entries for up to 10 years. If you only want a short visit, a visitor visa may be all you need.
Who can be my host in Canada?
Your host must be your child or grandchild, at least 18 years old, living in Canada, and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian. They must also meet or exceed the minimum necessary income for their family size and sign a letter of invitation. A spouse or common-law partner can co-sign, but other relatives such as siblings cannot.
Do I need medical insurance for a super visa?
Yes. You must have private medical insurance valid for at least one year from a Canadian insurance company, or from a foreign insurer approved by the minister. You need valid coverage on each entry to Canada, so if a policy expires during your stay you should renew it.
Can I include my spouse or dependants in the application?
No. You cannot include dependants in a super visa application. Each parent or grandparent applies separately, so if both of your parents want to visit, each one submits their own application.
My super visa or visitor visa was refused. Can you still help?
Yes. Refused temporary-resident applications are a core part of our work. We review the refusal letter and the officer's notes, identify the real concern (often weak ties to the home country or incomplete income proof), and rebuild a stronger application or advise on the best next step.
Are you a licensed (RCIC) immigration consultant?
Yes. Verge Immigration Services is led by a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) in good standing with the CICC and authorized to represent you with IRCC. We serve families from our Winnipeg, Halifax and Moncton offices and worldwide.
