ABOUT &ONTARIO
Ontario is the heart of Canada’s economy and the most popular destination for newcomers. Home to major cities like Toronto, Ottawa, and London, Ontario offers endless job opportunities, a diverse cultural environment, and high living standards. With thriving industries in technology, healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and education, the province attracts skilled workers and international graduates from all over the world.
Ontario also leads the nation in innovation — hosting global tech hubs, research centers, and multinational companies. Its strong labour market and multicultural communities make it one of the most welcoming provinces for immigrants looking to build a long-term future in Canada.
Through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), qualified individuals can receive a provincial nomination that significantly increases their chance of obtaining Canadian Permanent Residence (PR). Whether you are a skilled professional, a recent graduate, or an entrepreneur, Ontario provides multiple immigration pathways designed to match your qualifications and career goals.
At Verge Immigration, our certified consultants guide you step-by-step — from eligibility assessment to final PR submission — helping you successfully settle and grow your career in Ontario.
WHAT IS ONTARIO IMMIGRANT NOMINEE PROGRAM (OINP)?
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) — also known as the Ontario PNP Program — allows the province of Ontario to select and nominate foreign nationals who have the right skills, education, and work experience to contribute to its economy. Once nominated by Ontario, applicants can apply for permanent residence (PR) through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Unlike federal programs that assess candidates nationwide, OINP focuses on Ontario’s specific labour-market needs. The province regularly invites skilled professionals, tradespeople, international students, and entrepreneurs who are ready to live and work in Ontario long-term.
OINP operates under several categories — including Employer Job Offer, Human Capital, and Business Immigration— each with multiple streams targeting different applicant profiles. Many of these streams are aligned with the Express Entry System, meaning that receiving a provincial nomination adds 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, almost guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for PR.
By choosing Ontario, you’re not just applying for immigration — you’re investing in a province that values innovation, stability, and multicultural growth.
IN-DEMAND OCCUPATIONS IN ONTARIO
Ontario’s dynamic economy continues to attract skilled professionals from around the world. The province’s strong labour market is driven by growth in technology, healthcare, construction, finance, education, and transportation, creating constant demand for qualified talent.
Every year, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) updates its list of in-demand occupations based on real market needs. Candidates with work experience in these sectors have higher chances of receiving a Notification of Interest (NOI) or being selected under an Employer Job Offer Stream.
Below are some of Ontario’s key high-demand categories:
1. Technology and IT Occupations
Software Engineers, Web Developers, Data Analysts, AI Specialists, Cybersecurity Experts, and System Administrators are consistently sought after, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Waterloo tech corridor.
2. Healthcare and Medical Fields
Registered Nurses, Physicians, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Technologists, and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) are in demand due to Ontario’s growing population and healthcare expansion.
3. Skilled Trades and Construction
Electricians, Carpenters, Plumbers, Heavy-Equipment Operators, and Welders are essential to Ontario’s infrastructure projects and residential growth.
4. Business and Finance Professions
Accountants, Financial Analysts, Project Managers, and Human Resources Specialists are highly valued in Ontario’s corporate centres and start-up ecosystem.
5. Transportation and Logistics
Truck Drivers, Dispatchers, and Warehouse Supervisors remain critical for Ontario’s supply chain and trade networks connecting the U.S. and Canada.
6. Education and Social Services
Teachers, Early Childhood Educators, Social Workers, and Counsellors play vital roles in community support and integration services.
At Verge Immigration, we analyze Ontario’s latest labour trends and help you target the most promising NOC occupations for your profile. Whether you’re an IT professional, nurse, skilled tradesperson, or recent graduate, our experts can guide you to the right OINP stream that aligns with your background and Ontario’s workforce needs.
STREAMS UNDER THE OINP
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) offers multiple immigration pathways designed to attract skilled workers, international graduates, and entrepreneurs who can contribute to the province’s economic growth.
Each stream targets a specific group of applicants — depending on work experience, education level, and intent to live in Ontario.
Below are the 9 active OINP streams available:
EMPLOYER JOB OFFER: FOREIGN WORKER STREAM
This stream is for skilled foreign workers with a full-time, permanent job offer from an Ontario employer in an eligible occupation (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3). Applicants must demonstrate relevant work experience, proper licensing (if required), and intent to reside in Ontario. It’s ideal for those already working in Canada or holding a valid job offer.
EMPLOYER JOB OFFER: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT STREAM
Designed for recent graduates from Ontario colleges or universities who have a full-time job offer in a skilled occupation. This stream helps international students transition from study permits to permanent residence, supporting Ontario’s goal of retaining global talent.
EMPLOYER JOB OFFER: IN-DEMAND SKILLS STREAM
For workers with job offers in high-demand but lower-skilled occupations (TEER 4 or 5), such as personal support workers, truck drivers, construction labourers, and agricultural staff. Applicants must meet language (CLB 4) and work experience requirements, and the employer must be established in Ontario.
MASTERS GRADUATE STREAM
For individuals who have completed a Master’s degree from an eligible Ontario university. A job offer is not required. Applicants must show language proficiency (CLB 7+), settlement funds, and genuine intent to live and work in Ontario. This stream is one of the fastest routes for international students to gain PR.
At Verge Immigration, our licensed consultant can help you determine which OINP stream best matches your background, guide you through document preparation, and ensure your application meets provincial and federal requirements — giving you the best chance to secure Alberta nomination and permanent residence.
PHD GRADUATE STREAM
For graduates who have earned a PhD from an eligible Ontario university and lived in the province for at least two of the past five years. No job offer is needed. The stream encourages highly educated individuals to contribute to Ontario’s research and innovation sectors.
HUMAN CAPITAL PRIORITIES STREAM
Connected to the Express Entry system, this stream targets skilled professionals with strong education, experience, and language ability. Ontario periodically selects candidates from the federal pool who meet provincial labour needs and issues a Notification of Interest (NOI). A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, leading to a PR invitation.
FRENCH-SPEAKING SKILLED WORKER STREAM
Also aligned with Express Entry, this stream is for French-speaking skilled workers with strong English ability who want to live and work in Ontario. Applicants must meet education and work experience criteria and demonstrate language scores of NCLC 7 in French and CLB 6 in English. It supports Ontario’s growing Francophone community.
SKILLED TRADES STREAM
For candidates with at least one year of full-time paid work experience in Ontario in a skilled trade (NOC 72, 73, 82, 83, 93, etc.). Applicants must have a valid certification or licence if required. This stream provides an excellent opportunity for tradespeople already contributing to Ontario’s construction and manufacturing sectors.
ENTREPRENEUR STREAM
For candidates with at least one year of full-time paid work experience in Ontario in a skilled trade (NOC 72, 73, 82, 83, 93, etc.). Applicants must have a valid certification or licence if required. This stream provides an excellent opportunity for tradespeople already contributing to Ontario’s construction and manufacturing sectors.
At Verge Immigration, we assess your background and help you choose the most suitable OINP stream — whether it’s through Express Entry, a job offer, or an international graduate pathway. Our expert team prepares your documentation, ensures compliance with Ontario and IRCC requirements, and guides you until you achieve permanent residence success.
