CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS (CEC)
&
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the three federal immigration streams managed under the Express Entry system. It was designed for foreign workers and graduates who already have skilled work experience in Canada and wish to transition from temporary status to Permanent Residence (PR).
This pathway recognizes your Canadian work experience as a major advantage — proving that you’ve already adapted to the country’s job market, culture, and lifestyle. As a result, CEC applications are typically processed faster and require no proof of settlement funds, making it one of the most popular PR routes for those already contributing to the Canadian economy.

& WHO CAN APPLY?
To qualify for the Canadian Experience Class, you must:
• Have at least 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years.
• The job experience must fall under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 categories (managerial, professional, or technical occupations).
• Meet the minimum language requirement:
– CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0 or 1 jobs.
– CLB 5 for NOC TEER 2 or 3 jobs.
• Have legal status in Canada during the period of work experience (such as a valid study permit, PGWP, or work permit).
• Plan to live outside Quebec, as CEC is a federal program separate from Quebec immigration.
& HOW THE PROCESS WORKS ?
Gather Your Documents: Collect job letters, pay stubs, T4s, and employment records proving 12 months of skilled Canadian work.
Take a Language Test: Complete IELTS, CELPIP, TEF, or TCF and meet the CLB threshold for your NOC.
Create an Express Entry Profile: Submit your profile under the CEC category to enter the candidate pool.
Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA): If your CRS score meets or exceeds the draw threshold, you’ll receive an ITA for Permanent Residence.
Submit Your PR Application (e-APR): Upload all documents within 60 days through your IRCC account.
Medical & Background Checks: IRCC reviews your eligibility and conducts security screening.
Get Your PR Confirmation (COPR): Once approved, you become a Permanent Resident of Canada.
& REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
• Valid passport and government-issued ID.
• Language test results (valid for two years).
• Employment reference letters from Canadian employers (duties, pay, hours, and position).
• Proof of work authorization (copy of work permit, PGWP, etc.).
• T4 slips, pay stubs, or CRA Notices of Assessment to confirm employment.
• Police certificates for any country you’ve lived in more than six months.
• Medical exam results from an IRCC-approved physician.
& COMMON MISTAKES
Using self-employment or freelance work as experience — it doesn’t count for CEC eligibility.
• Not matching job duties with the correct NOC/TEER code.
• Submitting expired language test results or missing documents.
• Forgetting to include all employers during the 12-month period.
• Applying before completing a full year of eligible Canadian experience.
